There Was An Old Lady Who Lived In A Shoe...

It's been over a year since I last saw Grandma McCullough. Over five years it's been since she died. The last time she came around was back when I ventured into the attic and got lost in the darkness for a while. (That adventure is chronicled here at my blog over the course of a week's posts.) I can't remember the last time I thought of her.

She was never very nice to me and my sister when she was alive. She wasn't outright mean, so to speak, just unfeeling towards us. She also liked to paddle our hands with a ruler. Analie, my older sister, would never stand for such a thing. She's strong like Lora and Grandma knew that. So Laura and I were the sole objects of my grandmother's inaffection.

I think she hated us because my dad died and we were still there.

She was found one evening right downstairs in the foyer. Right at the bottom of the stairs. She's still here, I know. The McCullough House, the house she was born and died in and the house we currently reside.

If you knew the house then, and saw it today, you wouldn't recognize it. We've had a new kitchen put in due to a fire, remodeled two rooms into one huge bedroom for we three girls, and turned another bedroom into a vanity room so there's plenty of space to get dressed up.

Dead Grandma hates it.

Laura has the bedroom downstairs all to herself now that Jesca moved out. It's the only one with it's own bathroom. Then we have another unused bedroom down the hall that we're trying to figure out what to do with. Lora wants to keep it as a guest room so for now thats what it is.

The attic is two rooms. The first room is finished and carpeted and I use to have my computer and comic books up there till the darkness started to consume me and I went temporary insane. Since then it's only used by the bats and the wallgnomes and that thing that goes bump in the night.

I think Dead Grandma lives up there, too. She always liked it dark and cold. I think she only comes down now late at night. She likes to stand next to my bed whilst I sleep and bring her face just inches from mine. She likes to feel my breath since she has none of her own. (Her being dead and all.)

She never leaves the house. Rarely left it when she was alive. Sometimes I miss her. Most times I don't. I imagine she'll pop up again someday when the time is right. Or when I decide to stop taking my meds again.

Heya, sexy Sabrina! :) My evenings are free again so hopefully I can start writing regularly again.

Hopefully. :\

Perhaps if you could get her and the wallgnomes pitted against each other, they'd be too busy to bother you again.

I hope the end of school is going well for you. I know this was one of my least favorite times of year back when I had to worry about finals, but as soon as I sold off the books, man did I feel better.

Nope, Kent, Dead Grandma and the wallgnomes get along well unfortunately. Dead things usually do. :(
